Huddersfield Climbing Centre

The Huddersfield Climbing Centre opened in May 2015 in the new £34m Huddersfield Sports Centre.

The developers BAM construction delivered a state of the art sports facility which includes a competition swimming pool, a teaching pool, two sports halls, climbing walls, squash and martial arts facilities, a large fitness suite and café with children’s soft play and crèche facilities. The sports centre is owned by Kirklees Council but managed by Kirklees Active Leisure.

The climbing wall occupies 4,500 sq feet and offers a mixed roped area consisting of fixed top ropes and lead climbing provision rising to a height of 12 metres. There is 120 sq metres of bouldering and training provision. The climbing wall will also benefit from catering and conference facilities plus alternative fitness options, which we see as benefit to wall users and wider members of the Climbing Centre Group.

The current climbing wall provision also offers scope for expansion and it is feasible further roped climbing, auto belays and disability assisted hoist sections could be added in the future if funding was secured through Kirklees Active Leisure
